The Last Days of Humanity is a hardcore survival modpack, with a huge selection of mods to increase the difficulty and enhance the game.
Survival Tips[]
There is a lot to get used to when surviving in the apocalyptic wasteland, a lot of the game is about developing game sense and assessing the risk/reward balance of structures, managing resources and knowing when to run.
When starting off it's easy to fire off your weapons without a second thought, but in the wasteland ammunition is your most important resource. Difficult to find and even more difficult to craft, hold onto it until you absolutely need it, when your life is at risk, enemy survivors have you in their sights or the horde comes knocking at the doors to your base.
Craft melee weapons and try to space yourself at the right distance from enemies, you have a longer reach than most mobs, if done correctly you are free to attack into them while keeping yourself at a safe distance. Keep to slightly higher ground if you can, the more difficult it is for enemies to get to you the more time you have to attack and knock them back.
Good food is also scarce, so make sure to stockpile it to keep your hunger up, remember you will need multiple types of food available to prevent the effect of diminishing returns.
An important skill to learn is being able to identify the risks and rewards of actions you take in game. A lot of structures have extremely powerful loot in them, while others have significantly worse loot. Avoid huge fights if you can most of the time the rewards aren't worth the potential risk, especially early on. Cities and Badlands biomes have a lot of good loot, but are filled with high mob counts and more difficult enemies, and pose a huge risk to collect the loot inside.
Defending Yourself[]
There are many ways to defend yourself in the wasteland, ranging from traps and turrets to simple walls and defenses.
Early on walls are extremely effective, most zombies don't have the ability to break or place blocks in the first 10 days, so a wall can stop them in their tracks. This can be risky however, as a small number of them possess one or both of these abilities, so you should keep a watchful eye to make sure you can react quickly to this happening.
Another defense is gathering netherrack and lighting it on fire, this is quite effective as it slightly slows zombies down and deals a decent amount of damage to them as they approach.
If you have a lot of resources two defenses that can aid you quite a lot are Barbed Wire and Landmines, barbed wire slows and hurts enemies, however has durability and only lasts for a certain amount of uses. Landmines are effective at dealing with grouped enemies, however they are quite costly.
Turrets are one of the best defensive options available, able to defeat entire hordes on their own, however they are expensive to make, use a lot of ammo and require reading a Millitary Turret Construction Blueprint and Gun Workbench to craft.
